“IT Izglītības fonds” was established in 2015 to support IT and technology education in Latvia, thereby also contributing to the country’s economic development. Our vision is that careers in IT and technology are chosen by an equal number of talented boys and girls who have acquired the necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes at school to make a purposeful choice and succeed in the field.
Foundation’s impact
IT Izglītības fonds is a successful example of public-private cooperation. This is demonstrated by the interest of businesses in supporting the Foundation’s initiatives and in contributing to the development and support of modern curricula.
In 2022, Design & Technology will be nominated for the Design Award 2023.
In 2022, the Design for Design Award received a certificate of appreciation from the Ministry of Education and Science for its contribution to improving people’s digital skills.
In 2021, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the IT Education Foundation, the Saeima Subcommittee on Information Technology and Innovative Entrepreneurship and the Ministry of Education and Science to promote STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) in education.
The Foundation’s most significant impact is the development of computer science teaching materials for grades 1 to 9 as part of the “Start(IT)” project
- In 2018, Start(IT) is recognized by UNESCO as one of the 12 best IT education projects;
- In 2017, Start(IT) won the Accenture Global Awards;
- In 2016, Start(IT) received the AmCham Latvia Award “For Human Growth” for its outstanding contribution to education.
